Using the free WiFi Analyzer for Android, we’ll show you how to improve your WiFi speed.
Find the best channel for WiFi
Wireless networks use specific channels within the wireless spectrum. An overcrowded wireless channel results in decreased bandwidth and/or connectivity issues for your network. Use WiFi Analyzer to see what channels are in use and to identify the best channel to set on your router.
Step 1: Get the list of nearby access points.
This shows you all the routers in your location, their current strength, MAC address, Channel number, frequency and bandwidth, and security.
Step 2: Select the 2.4Ghz graph from the main menu.
This will bring up the the channel graph for the 2.4ghz spectrum:
In the picture above, we can see that there are strong WiFi routers on channels 1-3 and 7-14. The second router is using twice the bandwidth as router, as it is set in 40 MHz mode. Note, using 40 MHz mode doesn’t always mean faster WiFi. If the channel was congested and overlapped other WiFi routers it would actually be slower than using the 20 MHz bandwidth setting. There is also a router on channel 11, but Its signal isn’t strong enough to cause much interference and slow down speeds.
Step 3: Select Best Channel from the menu
Here we can see the best channel for WiFi is channels 4,5,6 as they have the least interference from other routers.
